Sing Well Singing Course
Week Two
Breathing In
1 - What We Are Doing This Week
Your breath in does much more for your singing than bringing air into the lungs. Your breath in is a wonderful opportunity to set up the position of your mouth and throat for easy, lovely singing.
2 - Here’s How
In this section, I'll talk you through this lesson's exercises in detail, so you can understand what you are doing and why. When you've worked through this section, go to section 3 which has the same exercises but without the explanations, so you can get on with your daily practice without listening to me yibber yabber.
Beautiful Throat
First up, the throat. Try these different approaches and see what feels good for you. Record yourselves sweetpeas, and watch back - so can see and hear how you are going.
Lifting That Soft Palate
It's quite amazing what lifting your soft palate does for your singing. Possums, the first exercise - the repressed yawn isn't for everybody. If it makes you really yawn, don't worry about that exercise. Go have a nap and then try one of the others.
A Little Bit Of Nothing
Let's have a look at your head and chin. Those bits of you can be keen to help. And good on them for their enthusiasm. The good news is it's their job to relax! You will need to record yourself and play it back, to see what they are up to.
3 - Your Daily Practice
Nothing like repetition to make things stick. For your daily practice - here are short versions of this lesson's exercises without the explanations. Pick your favourite posture/s and shoulder exercises for your daily practice routine.
4 - This Week’s Song
Let's put your beautiful breath in into a song, so you can experience how breathing in beautifully affects how singing sounds and feels. Sing this whole song gently. Breath in gently, and sing out gently. Aim to maintain the beautiful open feeling you create as you breath in, while you are singing. Click on the sheet music to open a PDF you can print out and keep.
