Sing Well Singing Course
Week One
Breathing In
1 - What We Are Doing This Week
Let's get started with breathing in. Singers use their breath to play their voice the same way cellists use a bow to play the cello. Managing a steady, even, gentle flow of air supports beautiful singing. How you breath in sets up all of your breathing, so it is the foundation of playing your voice beautifully.
2 - Here’s How
In this section, I'll talk you through this lesson's exercises in detail, so you can understand what you are doing and why. When you've worked through this section, go to section 3 which has the same exercises but without the explanations, so you can get on with your daily practice without listening to me yibber yabber.
The Mighty Librarian
Let’s get your belly moving in the right direction! Get your hands on your belly and get in front of a mirror.
Pick A Posture
Try out these positions in front of a mirror and see which one/s suit you best - which one/s get your belly easily, naturally moving down and out?
Shoulders
Find out if your shoulders are helping or hindering your deep breathing, and what you can do about it.
3 - Your Daily Practice
Nothing like repetition to make things stick. For your daily practice - here are short versions of this lesson's exercises without the explanations. Pick your favourite posture/s and shoulder exercises for your daily practice routine.
4 - This Week’s Song
Let's apply your great work to a song. This song is crafted to help you focus on and practise your lovely breathing in. There are big breaks between phrases so you can breath in beautifully, relaxing your belly. I I've used "sh" to start many of the phrases so you can incorporate your shooshing librarian exercise to gently engage your belly. Relax your shoulders. You can take a recording of yourself and check how you are going darlings. Click on the sheet music to open a PDF you can print out and keep. Sing it up pumpkins.
