Sing Well Singing Course

Week Nine
Up We Go

1 - What We Are Doing This Week

We are heading up - exploring how to get those higher notes. The good news is I'm a low voiced singer - I sing alto in choir - so please relax. We won't be trying to go stratospheric - I can't get there! There may be some lower basses and female tenors whose voices do not want to go up. My advice is that you may well be able to, but it may need one on one work with a teacher to explore how, and if you don't need it in your choir, then relax! Do what you can with ease and comfort.

2 - Here’s How

In this section, I'll talk you through this lesson's exercises in detail, so you can understand what you are doing and why. When you've worked through this section, go to section 3 which has the same exercises but without the explanations,  so you can get on with your daily practice without listening to me yibber yabber.

Beautiful Breath In

Let's revisit breathing in beautifully. The setting up you do while breathing in helps you access your high notes.

Now For The Sillies.

These exercises may feel ridiculous. I sure hope so - that's a healthy sign that you are doing something new. Also we need to play a little trick on your brain. If it's busy thinking how ridiculous what you are doing is, it wont notice that it's higher than you normally sing!

Putting It To Music

Let's take the sillies and put them to music now, so you can get comfortable using these new sounds while you sing.

3 - Your Daily Practice

Nothing like repetition to make things stick. For your daily practice - here are short versions of this lesson's exercises without the explanations. Pick your favourite posture/s and shoulder exercises for your daily practice routine.

4 - This Week’s Song

Let's apply your beautiful work to this song. You may like to sing it through a few times first without the words - using some of the helpful sounds from the exercises to get that lovely easy high feeling.
