Cana Cludhmor
A gorgeous, dramatic 15 minute mini-opera for soprano and pianist. Drawn from a 15th century Irish story, Cana is a famous poetess/bard who addresses her audience to tell how she first came to play harp. A wonderful and unique love story involving a whale skeleton, the wild ocean, extended piano techniques and an option crash cymbal.
Hope
A haunting and evocative setting of Emily Dickinson’s delicate poem. This has been performed by both mezzos and sopranos and because it’s acapella, you can easily set it where best suits your voice.
Windsong Wines Song Cycle
Six songs for soprano, piano and clarinet. (Also available with a C score if you would like to feature a different instrument.) I love the poetry of Heather Webster who lives and writes in her vineyard Windsong Wines in one of South Australia's beautiful wine regions - Langhorne Creek, filled with bright Australian sunshine, gum trees and birdsong.
Say If You Will
A love song I wrote for my baritone husband Emlyn, setting my own text inspired by various words from Shakespeare’s poems and plays. “We are but music we melt in the air, love is what stays to show we were there.” (also in a higher key for tenor)
Night Whales
During the early nineteenth century whales in South Australia’s Encounter Bay were hunted to near extinction, only returning nearly 100 years later. Now each winter, mother whales bring their calves to the bay, and from the shore, humans watch in wonder.
I have written two movements for this work, and during 2024 will finish the first and fourth movements
